Monday 14th November

Well it's been an interesting few days. Travelling on Friday from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. On the bus I tried taranchilla (that of the spider variety) leg! Tasted a bit like chicken really. Our guide was really good and stopped and pointed things out to us.

In the early evening we had a meeting with the girl from Head Office and apparently because our Foreign Office are advising against travel into Bangkok the company's insurance (and our own) won't let us travel into the place. The company are paying for an extra two nights here. We were going to have four days in Bangkok, but have decided to extend our stay here instead and am now flying into the Bangkok on Sunday when we are due to meet up with our new tour.

Went out with the group for a meal. Ended up having my feet eaten by fish! We had traditional dancing with our meal and then back to the hotel. Just as I was going up, Lucy pointed out a leaflet advertising a Rocky Horror Night in a local bar. When asked what night, I was told tonight. Flew over to the bar and caught the second half of the film. It's an ex-pat bar, run by two gay guys and several people were dressed up! Only I could find this bar!!

Have just tried to upload some images, but not working at the mo. Also having problems doing my newsletter for amdram. There might be plenty of internet access, but it certainly could be better.

Saturday was temple day. I went to the main one and then ducked out of the rest - too much walking in extreme heat.

Sunday we went shopping in the Old Market and I bought a new suitcase and finally a pair of shorts. The wheel on my old suitcase broke and has been a real pain. I've been looking for shorts ever since I arrived in South Asia. Going to have to go back and get some more as they're great. Also bought a hat! Most attractive - not. Sunday afternoon we went to a floating village, which is a village in the middle of a lake built on poles, really interesting. In the evening we went out for a group meal and Lucy, Lee and me persuaded everyone to go to the bar I went to on Friday. Turned up with 12 other people in tow and got a wonderful greeting from the people I met on Friday night.

Today we said goodbye to the non Brits. It's been a nightmare for a lot of people. We were the luckiest.
