Hanoi - Monday 31st October

Yesterday we went to the Museum of Women which was actually more interesting than it sounds, especially the costumes :) No photos at the moment as the internet is very slow, the fact that I'm writing this at all is a miracle at the moment.

Met the new members of the group in the evening and went out for a meal, Lucy and Lee sneaked in as well. Met my room mate for the trip, Shaan from Australia, she makes me look like a shrinking violet! The meal was great and afterwards we went to the Mango Bar for a drink. My first glass of wine since I got here.

Early morning today for a trip to Ho Chi Min's Mausoleum (closed for renovations) and where he used to live and work. Kathy it reminded me of Tienamin Square, but smaller. Then we moved on to The Hanoi Hilton - the prison. Very sad reading about the conditions and the people who were held and executed there. Then we went to the Lotus Pagoda and finally the Temple of Literature. There were lots of young girls in traditional dress around who had just graduated and I ended up having my picture taken with them - bonus!

This afternoon we're off to collect our laundry (1USD per kg) and then we're off on a train tonight to Hue.

I do really like Hanoi, but I'm not sure I would want to live here for more than a few months. The traffic is manic and it's very poor here. I guess that's a good thing for tourists as you get a long for your money.

Hopefully some photos in the next couple of days, but if not I'll post them when I'm back.
